The Electronic Cheques (e-Cheques) system offers a secure and efficient online payment infrastructure within Hong Kong's financial sector. Serving as a digital extension of traditional paper cheques, this platform aims to enhance electronic commerce by providing a streamlined and trustworthy payment method.
The e-Cheque Drop Box system, reminiscent of conventional cheque drop boxes, is designed to facilitate the presentation of e-Cheques by bank clients. To utilize this service, payees must first register with the system, enabling them to receive and process e-Cheque presentments effectively.
During the presentation process, payees have the option to select their preferred deposit account from a predefined list of bank accounts. Funds are made available upon successful settlement, and notifications are communicated via email to keep payees informed of transaction status.
Currently, the e-Cheque Drop Box system supports transactions in Hong Kong dollar (HKD), Chinese Yuan (RMB), and US dollar (USD), reflecting its adaptability to key regional currencies.
